| Nucs Nuclei Nucleus - a small colony of honey bees used to expand into a large established colony. |
The Nucs that we sell are not only bred and produced to the British Bee Keeping Associations specification but are also carefully selected for
their calm nature, making your experience of bee keeping a pleasure to remember and pass on to others.
Bee colonies can vary greatly in temperament, mainly due to the breeding of the Queen but however good the colony
is, it is important to learn to handle the bees with love and care. Your care and attention will be greatly repaid.
Ours bees are a cross between Carnolian and Buckfast.
In no way can you compare our Nucs to receiving a swarm from somebody.
Although a swarm could be a low cost method to start bee keeping, you do have to remember that a swarm could turn into an aggressive,
diseased colony. Although a swarm will always seem to start off good, a swarm may not show its true nature for a number of weeks until the queen produces new bees.
Re Queening a swarm with a known ' proven' new Queen may be your only way of turning the bees into a good natured colony.
You are always advised to quarantine a swarm.

Although we recommend that Nucs are picked up ( we don't send them out with third parties ) we are prepared to deliver them, at cost, within 25 miles.
You are reminded that you can come and handle bees or inspect your Nuc before you pick it up.
Nucs with our own bred Queens are available from early April, weather permitting. They have to be pre-paid for and are released in strict order of receiving payments. They are in RETURNABLE NUC BOXES and are made up of BS National frames so they will fit in a National or WBC hive.
If you have trouble sourcing nucs for other types of hives, contact us, as we would endeavor to produce a nuc specially for you.
We are also able to supply 'starter Nucs' for Top Bar Hives such as the
Warré or Cornish and other variations, to give your new TBH a flying start.
By sending your top bars to us, we are also able to produce a nuc
specially for you on your bars.
We are the only supplier in the UK supplying top bar nucs.

Although we may not use gloves or smoke during our hive inspections, you are reminded not to get complacent about the fact that bee colonies can temporarily change their temperament due to a number of things. |

We are very sorry but this year 2012, we are not producing nucs for sale.
If you are having trouble finding bees, we might be able to put you onto
local bee keepers that have national nucs for
sale. These are not normally
available until May/June.
To our knowledge, nobody else produces top bar nucs.
